JOHANNESBURG, OCTOBER 24, 2024 – The 29th SAVRALA Manufacturer of the Year (MOTY) awards were announced at a gala event in Randburg, Johannesburg on Thursday, 24 October 2024.

The MOTY Awards, which are run under the auspices of the Southern African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA), recognises the motor manufacturers for the level of service and support provided to members, who manage roughly 400,000 vehicles per year through rental and leasing channels.

These awards are based on two comprehensive surveys completed by 41 car rental and leasing companies in South Africa, measuring the service from the manufacturers they interact with regularly and whose vehicles they have in their fleets. The surveys cover various areas of their business such as communication and contact with the manufacturers, support provided, maintenance issues, financial aspects, and B-BBEE compliance.

The participating rental and leasing companies are required to submit questionnaires completed by a panel of people who depend on and deal directly with each manufacturer. This results in obtaining an accurate, objective, unbiased and company-wide perspective of the service levels experienced. The results from this competition enable each manufacturer to identify their strengths and work on areas of weakness as highlighted to them by their customers.

Awards are made in both the rental and leasing category, as well as combined rental and leasing performance. Toyota is the winner in the rental category for the second consecutive year, followed by BMW in second position and Hyundai in third.

In the leasing category, Toyota improved from its bronze award in 2023 to gold in 2024. Last year’s winner, Isuzu, now shares second place with Hyundai, while Kia moved into third place.

Automotive manufacturers, together with their rental and leasing partners, continue to operate in a challenging environment ruled by tough economic conditions, and just remaining operational is no small feat. Yet, the positive picture of improvement painted by the graph below reveals the typical South African grit and never-say-die attitude at the heart of it all, demonstrating how the industry works together for the greater good, even in the toughest times.

MANUFACTURER OF THE YEAR: TOYOTA TAKES IT ALL 2

Rental Results for 2024:

Toyota maintained their top spot in the rental section for the second consecutive year. BMW, who last appeared in the top 3 rental positions in 2018, achieved the 2nd position this year, with Hyundai moving into 3rd place in the rental division.

The Value Award is presented to the automotive member that has scored the most combined points for the financial section, and for the seventh year running, the winner is Toyota in the rental section.

The Tutuka Award recognises the best-scoring automotive member who supplies lower and niche vehicle volumes to the car rental industry, and the 2024 award goes to Renault.

The Rental Award for the manufacturer who improved the most since the previous year was awarded to Chery.

The below table shows the top three rental positions for the last 5 years.

RENTAL WINNERS

Gold

Silver

Bronze

2024

Toyota

BMW

Hyundai

2023

Toyota

Kia

Isuzu

2022

Isuzu

Toyota

Mini

2021

Isuzu

Volkswagen

Toyota

2020

Isuzu

Toyota

Volkswagen

Leasing Results for 2024:

Toyota improved from their 3rd position held last year to take top honours in leasing as well as rental in 2024. This moved last year’s winner, Isuzu, down to 2nd place in 2024 which they share with Hyundai, having achieved the same scores in the leasing section. Kia took third place in 2024, their first podium appearance in leasing, though they have been second in rental last year.

The Value Award for the manufacturer scoring the best for the financial section on the leasing survey was awarded to Toyota, which has won this award five times in the last seven years.

The Leasing Award for the manufacturer who improved the most since the previous year was awarded to Mitsubishi.

The below table shows the top three leasing positions for the last 5 years.

LEASING WINNERS

Gold

Silver

Bronze

2024

Toyota

Shared Isuzu and Hyundai

Kia

2023

Isuzu

Volkswagen

Toyota

2022

Isuzu

Volkswagen

Toyota

2021

Isuzu

Volkswagen

Toyota

2020

Isuzu

Toyota

Hyundai

Overall results for 2024:

The rental and leasing scores for qualifying manufacturers are combined to calculate the overall winner. This year’s overall winner is Toyota, improving from last year’s second position. Hyundai achieved the overall second position moving last year’s winner, Isuzu, down to third place in 2024.

OVERALL WINNERS

Gold

Silver

Bronze

2024

Toyota

Hyundai

Isuzu

2023

Isuzu

Toyota

Volkswagen

2022

Isuzu

Toyota

Volkswagen

2021

Isuzu

Volkswagen

Toyota

2020

Isuzu

Toyota

Hyundai

Best Representative Awards for 2024:

The rental and leasing companies nominate individuals for the best representative awards based on their performance and support during the year. Jeanette Bossert from Nissan was voted the best Account Representative in the leasing section. The award for the best Account Representative in the rental section was shared by Sarah Burkey from Suzuki and previous winner Lebo Lekalakala, representing Toyota.

The winner of the best Technical Representative award in the rental section is Lufuno Nephawe from Toyota, winning this award for the second consecutive year. Lebo Mabowa from Volkswagen was voted the best Technical Representative in the leasing section, also for the second consecutive year.

We extend our warmest congratulations to all our incredible winners. Your hard work, dedication, and passion have truly paid off. Your achievements challenge us all to raise the bar even higher in the coming year as we look forward to the impact you will continue to make in this challenging industry that we find ourselves in.

The Southern African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA) extended a lifeline to one of South Africa’s most vulnerable populations through its annual Charity Golf Day on 21 August. Held at the Royal Johannesburg & Kensington Golf Course, the event successfully raised critical funds for Little Eden Society, an organisation dedicated to providing round-the-clock care for individuals with profound intellectual disabilities.

With an annual operational budget of R55 million, Little Eden Society relies heavily on events like this to maintain its life-changing services for 300 children and adults across two facilities. The charity faces constant financial pressure to provide essential care to those often classified as “uneducable.”

“This Charity Golf Day was more than just a round of golf,” said Sandile Ntseoane, General Manager of SAVRALA. “It was an opportunity for our community to unite and make a meaningful impact on Little Eden Society, a cause we hold dear. This marks our second year of supporting Little Eden through this charity event.” He extended his gratitude to the event’s generous sponsors, especially those contributing for the first time, for making the day possible.

Ntseoane extended a special thank you to Bluu Car Rental CEO Paulette McGhee, Europcar CEO Martin Lydall and Hertz Car Rental CEO Julian Visagie, who initiated an internal CEO challenge, contributing R10,000 each towards Little Eden Society.

“Despite the country’s tough economic climate, this year’s golf day raised around R60,000 for the charity,” he says. “We thank all participants for their kindness, generosity and continued support as this will contribute to Little Eden’s life-changing mission.”

Nichollette Zulu, Business Development Manager at Little Eden, underscored the event’s significance: “Such events are critical to raising much-needed funds and spreading the word about our special organisation.”

The funds raised will directly support Little Eden’s programmes, providing specialised care that many residents would struggle to receive elsewhere. Nadine Mason, Development Officer at Little Eden Society, highlighted the broader impact: “This partnership empowers Little Eden to extend its reach, fostering greater community engagement and encouraging individuals, families, and companies to contribute to something larger than themselves.”

“As a community organisation dedicated to the care of our most vulnerable, nurturing positive relationships within the community is crucial. This, in turn, enhances the support available to our residents,” explained Mason. “SAVRALA and its members have become a part of the Little Eden family. Through this connection, you are investing in the lifelong quality care of each of our residents. Thank you for driving Little Eden forward.”

This event is one of many ways SAVRALA demonstrates its commitment to giving back to the community. As the representative voice of Southern Africa’s vehicle rental, leasing, and fleet management sector, SAVRALA is instrumental in steering industry standards and is committed to raising the professional profile of the collective industries.

JOHANNESBURG, 1 JULY 2024 – The Southern African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA) extends a warm welcome to Patricia de Lille on her reappointment as Minister of Tourism and to Barbara Creecy as the new Minister of Transport.

Sandile Ntseoane, General Manager of SAVRALA, expressed optimism about the appointments: “We are pleased to see continuity in the Tourism portfolio and look forward to fresh perspectives in Transport. These ministries are crucial for our industry’s growth and South Africa’s economic development.”

Ntseoane highlighted the recent positive trends in the car rental sector: “We’ve seen a significant upturn in demand, with car rental revenue per day for inbound tourism increasing significantly. This growth reflects the resilience and potential of our industry.”

SAVRALA appreciates Minister de Lille’s ongoing support, particularly in enhancing tourism safety. “Minister de Lille has been instrumental in establishing the national tourism operations centre, which provides round-the-clock emergency incident management. This initiative significantly boosts visitor confidence,” Ntseoane added.

Looking ahead, SAVRALA sees opportunities for further collaboration with both ministries. “We aim to work closely with Ministers de Lille and Creecy to address challenges such as infrastructure development, sustainable mobility solutions, and promoting South Africa as a top destination for both leisure and business travellers,” Ntseoane stated.

The association believes that a thriving vehicle rental and leasing sector is vital for tourism growth and overall economic development. SAVRALA remains committed to engaging constructively with government to create an environment that supports industry growth while enhancing the travel experience for both domestic and international visitors.

SAVRALA extends its congratulations to all members of the new Cabinet and commits to continue fostering collaboration between the Car Rental and Leasing industry and the new Government of National Unity in our pursuit of economic growth, economic development and shared economic prosperity.

Ends

About SAVRALA

SAVRALA is the representative voice of Southern Africa’s vehicle rental, leasing and fleet management sector. Its members have a combined national footprint with over 600 branches countrywide. Its Associate members comprise most motor manufacturers and importers and allied industry sales and service companies. SAVRALA members provide short-term self-drive rental, medium and long-term rentals and/or leasing and fleet management services to corporate users and consumers. The sector employs an estimated 12,000 people and, as a direct multiplier effect, several thousand more jobs are sustained across the South African automotive industry.

SAVRALA is pleased to welcome and extend its congratulations to the newly appointed South African Tourism leadership. We applaud the board’s composition, led by Chairperson Ms. Makhosazana Khanyile and newly appointed CEO Ms. Nombulelo Guliwe, and recognise its potential to propel sustainable tourism growth within our sector.

The full list of Board members is as follows:

Chairperson: Ms. Makhosazana Khanyile

Deputy Chairperson: Ms. Lizelle Jordaan

Members:

Dr. Gregory Davids

Mr. Ikaneng Pilane

Prof Stella Bavuma

Ms. Nqabomzi Haya

Mr. Rajesh Mahabeer

Mr. Ayanda Mazibuko

Ms. Maija de Rijk-Uys

Sandile Ntseoane, General Manager of SAVRALA, emphasises the significance of a permanent executive team at SA Tourism. “A dynamic and effective South African Tourism is essential for the success of the entire travel and tourism ecosystem,” he states. This development, SAVRALA is confident, will bring much-needed stability to the relationship between SAT and the broader tourism sector, accelerating progress towards growth objectives.

Recognising the critical role our industry plays in tourist mobility, SAVRALA eagerly anticipates collaborating with the new leadership. “We look forward to partnering with the new SA Tourism leadership to support vital initiatives aimed at increasing tourist length of stay, broadening geographic reach, and boosting tourist spend,” states Ntseoane.

SAVRALA aligns strongly with SA Tourism’s focus on extending visitor stays and promoting travel to lesser-known regions. We understand the importance of reliable transportation and well-maintained road networks in attracting both self-drive tourists and corporate travellers.

Further, SAVRALA supports initiatives that address seasonality. “For the vehicle rental and leasing industry, initiatives that would help to combat seasonality through targeted campaigns that promote off-peak travel, would also help to create consistent demand for rental vehicles and support stable employment within our sector,” explains Ntseoane.

SAVRALA remains committed to working collaboratively with the new SA Tourism leadership to build a resilient and sustainable tourism sector. Ntseoane affirms, “Through active collaboration, we are confident that we can collectively unlock South Africa’s vast tourism potential, bringing benefits to businesses and communities across the country.”

SA Tourism’s challenges are those of the entire South African tourism industry. SAVRALA stands ready as a willing partner, prepared to contribute to and assist with addressing these challenges head-on. This collaborative approach underpins our vision for a brighter future for South African tourism, a future that benefits our members, the industry, and the nation.

JOHANNESBURG, 6 February 2024: The Southern African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA) recently convened its CEOs and senior leaders in Johannesburg aimed at defining the mandate of the National Executive Council (NEC) for the year 2024. The gathering served as a platform to delineate the association’s key priorities and address critical industry concerns.

Reflecting on the achievements and challenges of 2023, the SAVRALA leadership identified strategic focus areas to navigate the dynamic landscape of the vehicle rental and leasing sector in South Africa.

A highlight of the Annual SAVRALA CEO meeting was a comprehensive overview of the South African tourism landscape by Tourism Minister Patricia De Lille. The minister emphasised the significance of effective communication within the sector and highlighted the promising trajectory of South Africa’s tourism industry, as evidenced by the recent release of international arrival figures by Statistics South Africa.

Minister De Lille emphasised the importance of addressing key barriers such as visa regulations and limited air access while advocating for the integration of new technologies to enhance operational efficiency.

In alignment with SAVRALA’s commitment to maintaining the highest standards of service, ethics, and trading practices, Sandile Ntseoane, General Manager of SAVRALA, reiterated the association’s key priorities. These include fostering collaboration both within South Africa and beyond its borders, with a focus on enhancing industry standards and promoting collective interests.

The vehicle rental industry has exhibited resilience amidst challenges, demonstrating a robust recovery and positive trends in the market. Ntseoane highlighted the industry’s concerted efforts in vehicle replacement and safety enhancements, coupled with initiatives to address regulatory frameworks and industry skill shortages.

Looking ahead to 2024, SAVRALA remains steadfast in its commitment to advancing safety measures, enhancing education initiatives, promoting compliance, and improving stakeholder communication. The association invites active engagement from all stakeholders to drive meaningful change and sustainable growth within the sector.

Notable upcoming events include the SAVRALA Golf Day on 21 August and the prestigious MOTY Awards on 17 October.

JOHANNESBURG, 19 OCTOBER 2023 – South Africa’s top vehicle manufacturers, as rated by the country’s vehicle rental and leasing companies, were honoured at this year’s SAVRALA Manufacturer of the Year (MOTY) awards, which were announced at a gala ceremony in Johannesburg today.

The 28th edition of the MOTY awards, organised by the Southern African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA), honours motor manufacturers for their outstanding service and support to members. These members collectively oversee approximately 400,000 vehicles annually through rental and leasing channels.

These awards are determined through two thorough surveys conducted with 37 car rental and leasing companies in South Africa. These surveys gauge their interactions with manufacturers they frequently deal with and whose vehicles are part of their fleets. The surveys encompass several key aspects of their operations, including communication and contact with manufacturers, support services, maintenance concerns, financial matters, and B-BBEE compliance.

The participating rental and leasing companies are required to involve all the relevant people who are knowledgeable about each criterion within their organisations to complete the various sections of the surveys. This is to ensure that the results are not biased and can be used by the manufacturers to identify and rectify any pain points in their customer journey with the rental and leasing industries.

SAVRALA’s GM, Sandile Ntseoane, emphasised the role of a key partner of the MOTY awards. “To recognise and acknowledge service excellence, SAVRALA continues to rely on its respected, most trusted, and independent partner, Lightstone. Their expertise in providing information, valuations, and solutions that enable better business decisions is instrumental in helping SAVRALA coordinate and administer the survey.”

Awards are made in the Rental category, Leasing category as well as combined Rental and Leasing performance.

In the Rental category, Toyota moved into the top position for the first time in four years, leading second place Kia and last year’s winner, Isuzu, now in third.

The Leasing positions remained the same for the third consecutive year, with Isuzu taking top honours, followed by Volkswagen in second place and Toyota taking third place.

Considering all the challenges currently facing the automotive industry, these achievements are commendable. Manufacturers had to walk a tight rope to remain operational in the prevailing tough economic conditions, locally and globally. Yet despite these challenges, the industry showed resilience in achieving the best Rental and Leasing industry scores achieved to date.

Rental Results for 2023

Toyota, the winner of the Rental category in 2018 and 2019, reclaimed the top spot in the Rental category in 2023 after securing second and third places in the years following their last victory in 2019.

Kia was awarded second place in the Rental category in 2023, which is only their second appearance among the top three Rental manufacturers. Kia shared second place with Renault in 2019, but this year they have returned to their second position.

The exceptional performances from Toyota and Kia moved the Rental winner of the last three years, Isuzu, into third position for 2023.

The Value award goes to the automotive member who has accumulated the highest total points in both the Financial and Rental sections. For the sixth consecutive year, Toyota has emerged as the winner.

The Tutuka award is given to the automotive member who scores the highest and supplies lower and niche vehicle volumes to the car rental industry. Mini has dominated this award by winning it for the fifth year in a row.

Leasing Results for 2023:

Isuzu continued their winning ways in the Leasing section and were awarded Gold in the Leasing category for the fourth consecutive year. Volkswagen held steady for their second position and Toyota took third, the same top three positions for Leasing for the last three years.

The Value award for the Manufacturer scoring the best for the Financial section on the Leasing survey was awarded to Isuzu, winning this award for the second time in the last three years.

LEASING WINNERS

Gold

Silver

Bronze

2023

Isuzu

Volkswagen

Toyota

2022

Isuzu

Volkswagen

Toyota

2021

Isuzu

Volkswagen

Toyota

2020

Isuzu

Toyota

Hyundai

2019

Toyota

Hyundai

Nissan

Overall results for 2023:

The Rental and Leasing scores for qualifying manufacturers are combined to adjudicate an overall winner. This year’s Overall winner is Isuzu for the fourth consecutive year, with Toyota taking second position and Volkswagen completing the top three leader board positions.

OVERALL WINNERS

Gold

Silver

Bronze

2023

Isuzu

Toyota

Volkswagen

2022

Isuzu

Toyota

Volkswagen

2021

Isuzu

Volkswagen

Toyota

2020

Isuzu

Toyota

Hyundai

2019

Toyota

Hyundai

Kia

Best Representative Awards for 2023

The rental and leasing companies nominate individuals for the best representative awards based on their performance and support during the year. Geraldine Pillay from Isuzu and Jeanette Bossert from Nissan were voted the best Account Representatives in the Leasing section. The award for the best Account Representative in the Rental section was presented to Lebo Lekalakala, representing Toyota.

The winner of the best Technical Representative award in the Rental section is Lufuno Nephawe from Toyota, with Lebo Mabowa from Volkswagen voted the best Technical Representative in the Leasing section.

Congratulations to all the award winners! We believe that your commitment to excellence will inspire others in the industry and help raise the standards even higher.

Ends

About SAVRALA

JOHANNESBURG, 8 August 2023: As the on-going taxi strike continues to disrupt travel in Cape Town, the Southern African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA) emphasizes the need for a swift and effective resolution. Whilst there seems to be calm in previous hotspot areas, the prolonged strike action threatens Cape Town’s reputation as world-class city as well as South Africa as a tourist destination of choice.

Sandile Ntseoane, SAVRALA’s General Manager, expresses deep concern. “Our members play a crucial role in the tourism ecosystem. The disruptions from the taxi strike impact their livelihoods and have broader consequences for the local community, tourism sector and South Africa’s economy.

Last week, two of our members reported vehicle damage, highlighting the strike’s significant effect on essential assets supporting our members’ livelihoods.

“We empathize with those affected by the strike and understand the importance of a sustainable solution that addresses concerns for all parties concerned,” Ntseoane states.

SAVRALA strongly condemns violence, emphasising peaceful dialogue and negotiation as vital to finding a resolution and safeguarding both the taxi industry and broader community’s interests.

With the strike set to continue until 9 August, Ntseoane stresses the major challenges for the industry and warns of broader implications.” Cape Town’s premier tourist status and the livelihoods dependent on tourism are on the line. We must collaborate to ensure the city thrives economically and remains a preferred travel destination.” he concludes.

Press Release on behalf of SAVRALA

ISUZU VOTED BEST MANUFACTURER FOR THE THIRD-CONSECUTIVE YEAR

JOHANNESBURG, OCTOBER 20, 2022 – Isuzu has walked away with top honours in the Manufacturer Of The Year (MOTY) awards, run annually by the Southern African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA).

Now in its 27th year, the MOTY awards pays tribute to the vehicle manufacturers for the level of service and support provided to SAVRALA members, who manage roughly 400 000 vehicles per year through the rental and leasing channels.

These awards are based on two comprehensive surveys completed by 38 car rental and leasing companies in South Africa, measuring the service from the manufacturers they interact with regularly and whose vehicles they have in their fleets.

Among the various areas of business surveyed are communication and contact with the manufacturers, support provided, maintenance issues, financial aspects and B-BBEE compliance.

The participating Rental and Leasing companies are required to involve all the relevant people who are knowledgeable about each criterion within their organisations, to complete the various sections of the surveys. This is to ensure that the results are not biased and can be used by the manufacturers to identify and rectify any pain points in their customer journey with the rental and leasing industries.

A Snapshot of the Results

In 2022, Isuzu was voted as the winner in both the Rental and Leasing categories for the third consecutive year. In the Rental category, Toyota improved their third position from 2021 and moved into the second position this year. For the first time ever, Mini moved into a podium position, by being awarded the bronze award in the Rental Category.

The Leasing positions remained the same as last year, with Isuzu taking top honours, followed by Volkswagen in second place and Toyota close on their heels taking third place.

Considering all the challenges currently facing the automotive industry, this is no small feat. Manufacturers had to walk a tight rope to remain operational amidst the aftermath and recovery of the Covid-19 pandemic, Ukraine war, the global chip shortages leading to a shortage of new vehicles, the global energy crisis and the KZN flooding earlier this year, to name but a few.

Rental Results for 2022

Isuzu continued their winning spree, attaining the highest score on the measured criteria and helped along by a level one B-BBEE level of contribution, the only manufacturer achieving level one. Toyota moved into second position, as they did in 2020, in the process moving Volkswagen out of the top three positions. Historically, premium brands have not often won top awards in the MOTY competition, but this year Mini proved that this is indeed possible, by moving into third position for the first time ever.

The Value award is presented to the automotive member that has scored the most combined points for the Financial section, and for the fifth year running, the winner is Toyota.

The Tutuka award recognises the best scoring automotive member which supplies lower and niche vehicle volumes to the car rental industry, and Mini took top honours in this category for the fourth consecutive year.

Leasing Results for 2022

Isuzu carried their momentum to the Leasing section and were also awarded Gold in the Leasing category, as they did for the last two years. Volkswagen held steady for their second position and Toyota took third, the same top three positions for Leasing as in 2021.

The Value award for the Manufacturer scoring the best for the Financial section on the Leasing survey was awarded to Toyota, which has now won this award four times in the last five years.

Best Representative Awards for 2022

The rental and leasing companies nominate individuals for the best representative awards based on their performance and support during the year. Geraldine Pillay from Isuzu was voted the best Account Representative in the Leasing section. The award for the best Account Representative in the Rental section is shared between Queen Ramaliwa from BMW and Lebo Lekalakala, representing Toyota.

A special shout out has to go to Ramatjitla Penyane from Toyota, for being voted the best Technical Representative in both the Leasing and Rental categories for the last five years. He has definitely made this award his own and his legacy lives on.

Press Release on behalf of SAVRALA

NEW SAVRALA OFFICE BEARERS APPOINTED AS RENTAL AND LEASING SECTOR CLIMBS STEADILY TO PRE-COVID LEVELS

JOHANNESBURG, 17 OCTOBER 2022 – South Africa’s vehicle rental and leasing sector has its eyes firmly set on a year of purposeful growth, with the sector already reporting good gains on 2021 as tourism flows return post-Covid.

Driving this focus forward are the new office bearers of the South African Vehicle Rental and Leasing Association (SAVRALA) who are taking the wheel as vehicle rental and leasing companies leverage the “right sizing and right pricing” that took place during the pandemic against the backdrop of increased tourism demand.

From a rental perspective, in September 2022 vs September 2021, the overall fleet is up 41$ at 53,000 vehicles compared with 37,500 a year ago.

Although tourist arrivals in September 2022 at South Africa’s main airport – OR Tambo International – are still 32% lower than the same month in 2019, there have been positive gains; most notably in terms of revenue which is reported to be 52% higher than in September 2021. Revenue has actually exceeded pre-Covid levels, according to SAVRALA, and rental days are also up 39.7% to 1.1m rental days.

For leasing sector members, while the volume of business has shrunk by a third (for funded vehicles) and by 8% for non-funded vehicles, the sector has been innovative. Leasing companies have been leveraging their strengths to diversify their offer, including selling their software and managing non-fleet vehicles on their systems.

Among the headwinds still facing the sector are the increase in price of vehicles and increase in fuel price, among others. Education, Tourism Safety, AARTO and NATIS issues, Road safety, the state of road infrastructure and enforcement of road traffic rules will further be a focus for the new National Executive Committee who take over the organisation’s strategy for the next year.

SAVRALA retains Sandile Ntseoane as the GM of the association.

The new appointees are:

President: Derick De Vries, Standard Bank

Vice President: Rainer Gottschick, Motus/Europcar

Rental Chair: Riaan Weideman, AvisBudget

Rental Vice Chair: Braam Greyling, Hertz

Leasing Chair: Brian Roos, 58 Fleet

Leasing Vice Chair: Linda Khambule, Standard Bank

SAVRALA hosts its 27th annual Manufacturer of the Year Awards (MOTY) on 20 October acknowledging the ability of vehicle manufacturers to provide their rental and leasing customers with superior quality service and support.

Ends

SAVRALA EXTENDS HEARTFELT CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY OF FATALLY WOUNDED GERMAN TOURIST

JOHANNESBURG, 4 OCTOBER 2022 – SAVRALA wishes to extend its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the German tourist who died in the attempted hijacking which took place on the R538 in Mpumalanga yesterday.

Says Sandile Ntseoane, GM SAVRALA: “It is an absolute tragedy and one that has left us reeling. Our thoughts are with the victim’s loved ones as they mourn this incredible loss.”

According to SAPS, four tourists travelling to Numbi Gate were allegedly stopped by three armed suspects in a VW Caddy. The suspects are alleged to have instructed the tourists to open the doors of their vehicle and when the driver reportedly locked all the doors, one of the suspects shot him through the window. He died on the scene. The suspects reportedly sped off in their vehicle without taking anything from the tourists.

SAPS has launched a manhunt for the suspects and urged anyone with any information that may assist in apprehending the perpetrators to immediately call the Crime Stop number at 08600 10111 or send information via MYSAPSAPP. All received information will be treated as confidential and callers may opt to remain anonymous.

“The tourism sector has mobilised, and emergency protocols have been activated to bring the perpetrators to book. Further, we urge authorities to ramp up the security measures that had already been instituted in the area to ensure the safety of travellers so that this never happens again,” Ntseoane concludes.
