JOHANNESBURG, 13 FEBRUARY 2023 – Luxury property owner and management company Extraordinary has announced their participation in South African Tourism’s annual India Roadshow to be held in four cities from the 13th to the 16th of February 2023.
The roadshow, joined by Extraordinary sales executive Junese Viljoen, will include the key markets of Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, and Extraordinary will be among 20 exhibitors showcasing the unique destinations and experiences that South Africa has to offer, including luxury stays, safaris, adventure travel, and more.
India has become South Africa’s sixth largest international tourist market, since the pandemic, while the roadshow marks 30 years of bilateral relations. For Extraordinary, this will be the first time since 2019 that the company is able to connect with the travel trade in India. In the interim, the company has expanded its luxury portfolio and upgraded certain properties into a class of their own within the high-end segment.
Extraordinary sales and marketing representative based in India Medha Sampat says they are looking forward to meeting with the trade again to share some of their developments, including a brand-new, exclusive-use villa they have just launched.
Kingfisher Villa is set in the Greater Mabula Private Game Reserve in the Waterberg, Limpopo Province, a region that has been declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The villa offers discerning high-net-worth travellers an exclusive safari experience two-and-a-half hours’ drive from Johannesburg. Families and small groups are comfortably accommodated in five luxurious suites, with a private chef and butler on hand. The expansive reserve is home to big game, such as rhino, lion, leopard and elephant, and with a safari vehicle allocated to the villa, guests can explore at their leisure, accompanied by a dedicated guide.
“We’ve seen an increase in demand for exclusive-use, smaller properties in South Africa that’s in line with international trends,” explains Sampat. “Our secluded and self-contained Kingfisher Villa offers the ultimate in privacy, while allowing guests to feel as though the entire reserve is theirs alone.”
In the same reserve, Safari Plains offers an authentic African wilderness stay in a small luxury tented camp. Superior accommodation on stilts with floor to ceiling windows and wraparound viewing decks capitalises on the tranquil setting in the bush. Here the demand for immersive, purpose-driven travel is met with guests invited to be part of the African wild dog conservation programme. This species is among the most endangered mammals in the world.
Another addition to the Extraordinary collection portfolio is situated near the world-famous Kruger National Park. Angels View, a four-star hotel and conference facility was launched in December last year, offering both leisure and business travellers a springboard into not only the park, but also the many tourist attractions in the area. Designed to accommodate large events in a breath-taking mountain setting, Angels View also pays homage to the culture and history of the region. It is easily accessible from the Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport or private airstrip.
Extraordinary properties that have been upgraded to offer guests an enhanced bush retreat experience with exceptional facilities include Kwafubesi and Hamilton’s Tented Camp. Kwafubesi, the smallest luxury tented camp in the Greater Mabula Private Game Reserve, relaunched towards the end of last year with five new-look, refurbished tents offering guests prime game-viewing from private decks overlooking the grass plains. The addition of a new waterhole near the lodge gives guests dining or relaxing at the bar or in the lounge exceptional sightings of wild animals gathering to drink.
In the Mluwati Concession of the Kruger National Park, Hamiltons Tented Camp’s extensive redesign and upgrade builds even further on its world-class status. Overlooking the river, the opulent tented suites with teak floorboards and slipper baths, now include a private plunge pool and outdoor living room, while the main lodge has been extended with a private dining deck and firepit. This camp offers guests an ideal base from which to explore the quieter corners of the Kruger, and one that is set in an unspoilt, sustainability-first environment.
“We are excited to showcase these properties and others in India, all of which speak to the needs and expectations of our high-end market while reflecting global travel trends. Our portfolio offers authentic African experiences that are sought-after among our Indian travellers, and we encourage travel agents and tour operators to come and meet us to find out more,” concludes Sampat.
