Monwana Game Lodge Ranked No. 1 Africa Safari Lodge in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2024

Johannesburg, 18 July 2024Monwana Game Lodge, part of the renowned MORE Family Collection, announces its prestigious accolade as the No. 1 Africa Safari Lodge in the 2024 edition of the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards.

Monwana Game Lodge is in a 14,000-hectare private reserve in the Thornybush Nature Reserve and shares an unfenced border with the Greater Kruger National Park. Monwana Game Lodge stands out for its immersive safari adventures led by expert field guides. Guests can indulge in a variety of authentic experiences, including guided bush walks, night drives, and additional conservation efforts that include support of wild dog tracking and anti-poaching initiatives. The lodge’s newly introduced Mosaba Rangers programme offers young guests a unique opportunity to explore and connect with nature.

Monwana Game Lodge was rebuilt in August 2022, with a vision of being a leading eco-conscious lodge and integrated renewable energy sources, highly efficient heating and cooling systems, and smart technology to minimise its environmental footprint.

Robert More, Custodian and CEO of MORE Family Collection, expressed his gratitude, stating, “This recognition is testament to Monwana Game Lodge’s exceptional service that has captured the hearts of discerning travellers worldwide. Monwana Game Lodge was added to our collection as part of our growth strategy. We seek out impactful properties that offer a personalised safari experience and that align with our core values of enriching lives and making an impact on the preservation of the environment.”

Travel + Leisure’s announcement included the fact that South Africa was ranked the most popular country in Africa and said, ’Monwana Game Lodge is considered a solid all-rounder, overlooking a waterhole in a wildlife-rich safari reserve, supported by a compassionate team. The lodge was the top choice for T+L readers this year, with one reporting “an amazing experience throughout, from staff to game viewing.” With just six suites, and a private residence for up to five guests, Monwana is ideal for honeymooners or families with kids over age 10. As well as twice-daily game drives, guests can go on bush walks, take a massage at the spa, or head out after dark for stargazing.’.

Robert More together with Monwana Game Lodge owners Dirk van der Lely and Martine Schuitema, as well as General Manager Drienie Viljoen, attended the award event that took place in New York City on 17 July.

MORE Family Collection’s Lion Sands Game Reserve ranked 7th in the same category. Both properties also made the list of Top 100 World’s Best Hotels placing at no 21 and 73 respectively. “This acknowledgement underscores our vision and unwavering commitment to delivering extraordinary guest experiences that set the benchmark for luxury safari travel in Africa,” says More.
