SA TRAVELLERS BOOST FLIGHT CENTRE’S CONTRIBUTION OF 1 MILLION TREES IN JUST 8 MONTHS

 MEDIA RELEASE – 13 May 2024

The demand for Flight Centre’s innovative Captain’s Pack offering in South Africa and other markets has enabled Flight Centre and its partner Reforest to contribute over one million trees worldwide in just eight months—far exceeding their initial annual target.

“South Africans have wholeheartedly embraced the Captain’s Pack and its Planting for the Planet initiative,” said Antoinette Turner, General Manager of Flight Centre South Africa, noting that 18 357 packs have been purchased to date. “Exclusive to Flight Centre, the Captain’s Pack was developed based on customer data and feedback to provide essential travel items like lost baggage tracking and cover, a travel insurance upgrade, and a cancellation fee waiver, all designed for hassle-free journeys. This pack offers great value for money and demonstrates South Africans’ commitment to combatting climate change.”

Since August 2023, Flight Centre has been contributing to tree planting through Reforest with every customer purchase of the Captain’s Pack. In South Africa, the pack is priced between R150 and R350 and is available for purchase when booking flights, accommodation, or packages at any Flight Centre store nationwide.

Andrew Stark, Flight Centre’s Global Managing Director, commented: “We intended to make a significant sustainability impact through our generous customers and credible partner, Reforest. Reaching the million-tree milestone in just eight months is a great start.”

Half of the trees have already been planted across Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Morocco, and South Africa, with the remainder due later in 2024. The program also has community benefits, such as in Morocco, where it supports a women’s co-op nursery and First Nations Berber community activity.

“As one of the world’s largest travel retailers, we recognise our responsibility to protect and enrich the destinations in which we operate. Planting for the Planet allows us to make a genuine commitment to environmental care,” concluded Stark.
