SATSA congratulates Monika luel

Press Release from SATSA

SATSA congratulates Monika Iuel on appointment as WESGRO CMO

  • Iuel’s extensive industry experience will further bolster the strong private-public partnerships already in place
  • SATSA has an exemplary working relationship with WESGRO which is a shining example of how a private-public partnership in tourism should work.

Johannesburg, 13 January 2021 – SATSA is delighted with the appointment of Monika Iuel, former MD of Private Safaris, to the position of Chief Marketing Officer at WESGRO and wishes both her and her successor at Private Safaris, Virginia Barnard, every success for 2021.

SATSA CEO David Frost welcomed Iuel’s appointment at the tourism, trade and investment promotion agency for Cape Town and the Western Cape saying, that the appointment of Iuel to the position not only bodes well for the provincial tourism sector, but also for SATSA which has enjoyed an exceptionally positive and productive relationship with WESGRO over the years.

“Having Monika, who comes from a private sector background, in this role will deepen and consolidate the exemplary private-public partnership we enjoy with WESGRO. I first met Monika in 1999 when I worked as the Tourvest inbound MD. At the time she was working for one of the subsidiary companies. She impressed me even then as a relatively young tourism stakeholder who always had a considered opinion. Monika also played a pivotal role in our Inbound Recovery Team over the past year,” says Frost.

“It is a partnership that delivers practically with meaningful results on the ground and we look forward to working with Tim (Harris, WESGRO CEO), Monika and the entire WESGRO team to keep the momentum up that has already been created in the past few years.”

According to Frost, the partnership between WESGRO and SATSA is a shining example of how tourism should work. “Activities like our jointly run Mega Fams in the Garden Route deliver real value to tourism stakeholders. It is our hope that these kinds of initiatives can be strengthened at this challenging time and that together we create a model of collaboration that can be rolled out elsewhere in South Africa to reignite our tourism sector,” concludes Frost.
