DE HOOP NATURE RESERVE, WESTERN CAPE, 26 March 2025 – Morukuru Family De Hoop, De Hoop Collection, and CapeNature invite conservation-conscious travellers to stay with purpose and participate in De Hoop Nature Reserve’s 4th annual beach clean-up weekend, taking place 16 – 18 May 2025. This year’s event offers a unique opportunity to give back to nature and enjoy an exclusive luxury escape at specially discounted rates.
With sustainability at the forefront of global travel trends, eco-conscious tourism experiences have never been more relevant. A 2024 Booking.com study revealed that 79% of travellers want to make more mindful travel choices, while searches for ‘sustainable travel’ have skyrocketed past the 1-billion mark globally. Morukuru Family continues to meet this demand by blending five-star hospitality with meaningful conservation efforts.
Ed Zeeman, owner of Morukuru Family, explains:
“This event revolves around community, connection, and leaving a place better than we found it. We are proud to offer our guests a rewarding way to experience De Hoop Nature Reserve – and, of course, we love welcoming like-minded travellers who share our passion for taking care of our planet.”
Guests can choose to stay at Morukuru Beach Lodge in an ocean-view suite or De Hoop Collection’s De Hoop Villages or Opstal Suites, both offering exclusive rates for the weekend. The itinerary includes meals, as stipulated, and participation in the clean-up across the reserve’s coastline.
In addition to overnight guests, day visitors are encouraged to participate in the event on Friday 16 May (afternoon session) or Saturday 17 May (full day). Saturday helpers can enjoy a well-earned lunch at Bites Beach Café (pizza or burger + drink) for just R185 per person.

De Hoop Nature Reserve is a haven for biodiversity, home to the planet’s largest Overberg Renosterveld and more than 260 bird species, including the endangered Cape vulture. Stretching along a protected marine reserve, its shores offer some of the best land-based whale watching in the world. Through this signature event, volunteers will help preserve this extraordinary ecosystem, directly contributing to its future.
“A stay in the reserve is always special – but knowing you’ve left the beach a little better than you found it? That’s priceless. We hope this year’s clean-up will be our most impactful yet,” Zeeman concludes.
