JOHANNESBURG (Dec. 19, 2023): Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), the innovator in global cruise travel with a 57-year history of breaking boundaries, is proud to announce today that Norwegian Prima, the first ship in its groundbreaking Prima Class, arrived to the Port of Galveston for its first official season in Texas since her launch in 2022.

Today, Norwegian Prima will kick off her inaugural season in the Lone Star State and settle into its new homeport of Galveston, Texas for the 2023 and 2024 cruise season. As one of NCL’s newest vessels, Norwegian Prima will offer round-trip, seven-day cruises to some of the most beautiful, tropical destinations including the Company’s resort-style island destination, Harvest Caye in Belize; Costa Maya and Cozumel, Mexico; and Roatán (Bay Islands), Honduras. In addition, Norwegian Prima’s sister ship and newest vessel of the NCL fleet, Norwegian Viva, will homeport in Galveston, Texas for the first time ever from December 2025 to April 2026.

“We’re extremely excited to have Norwegian Prima officially sail out of Galveston, Texas this season, providing our guests with more opportunities to cruise from popular, easily accessible ports,” said David J. Herrera, president of Norwegian Cruise Line. “We recognise the strong cruise opportunity in Texas and are focused on strengthening our presence in that market.  We are proud to bring two of our most innovative ships in the fleet to this great state for two back-to-back winter seasons to offer dream cruise vacations to not only the immediate market, but the surrounding areas as well.”

Norwegian Prima, which was named Best Ocean Cruise Shipby Cruise Critic’s® Editors’ Picks Award in 2022, accommodates 3,100 guests at double occupancy and comprises over 1,500 staterooms, 18 dining venues, and 17 bars and lounges among her 20 decks. Norwegian Prima was the first ship in the NCL fleet to debut one-of-a-kind experiences including the Prima Speedway, the first three-level racetrack at sea; the Prima Theatre & Club, a three-story transformational theatre-nightclub; the Metropolitan Bar, the cruise industry’s first sustainable cocktail bar at sea; and Indulge Food Hall which offers 11 different cuisines including Q, a Texas-style BBQ. The Prima Class ship also features the 44,000 square-foot, wrap-around outdoor walkway, Ocean Boulevard, boasting more spaces for guests to soak in the sun including infinity beach and infinity pools, as well as La Terrazza, the al fresco lounge area; The Concourse, the open-air sculpture garden; and Oceanwalk, a clear glass bridge that offers great photo opportunities. In addition to a wide-variety of onboard activities, Norwegian Prima also offers some of the most spacious accommodations at sea for all types of guests such as solo staterooms, priced for the single cruiser in mind; connecting balcony staterooms for large families; and The Haven by Norwegian®, the Company’s luxurious, key card access only complex with 107 suites, a private restaurant, bar, lounge and sundeck plus a concierge and 24-hour butler service.
